St Helens Council Adult and Community Learning service are pleased to offer free 6-week online courses (1 hour per week) for parents/carers of schoolchildren in St Helens.
The courses comprise of an introductory session about our short interactive online qualification in Internet safety for IT users, which learners can then go on to complete remotely, using online assessment and e-invigilation, so that there is no need to enter a classroom. The qualification covers the key areas of internet safety and details are in the course breakdown attached.
This one-hour introductory session will be followed by five weekly one-hour remote Keeping Up with your Child English or Keeping Up with your Child maths sessions. These courses are non-accredited and designed for parents/carers of Year 3 primary or Year 7 secondary pupils. An additional 5 weeks online phonics course is also available and this can be delivered after half term.
These courses will cover aspects that children will be studying at school and provide parents/carers with the tools to support their children with schoolwork in these subjects. The courses will be taught by English and maths specialists and details are in the attached course outlines.
Course will start on Tuesday 12th January for Keeping Up with your Child English (including internet safety)
Course will start on Tuesday 19th January for Keeping Up with your Child Maths (including internet safety).
We will be able to put on more sessions according to demand.
If you are unable to attend the English and maths courses on the day/times scheduled, you can do the internet safety course on its own at a time that suits you.
